Megan Evans Photography

I am very excited to give you our first featured photographer. Not only is this women a great photographer but a sweet sweet person as well. She's an active participant in the photography community and alway's has sweet words for fellow photographers. Her work is bright, airy and fun! Let"s jump right in and read a bit about Megan Evans Photography

How did you come up with your business name?

It is just my name. I originally wanted something with the word "bee" in it because I love bees, but the name/url was taken. So I just stuck with me name.

What brought you to photography?

I was alway's taking pictures as a kid. I was alway's the "family documentarian" so when I had my own kids and started taking pictures and sharing them, it just sort of came together.

What do you like to shoot?

I love shooting families. The connection. The hugs. The smiles. The giggles. There is nothing better than capturing togetherness.

Who is your favorite muse?

My daughter Finley. She has the most gorgeous hair, it just photographs so well. And these big brown eyes. She is just the perfect subject.

What is in your camera bag

Wow, I am a bit of a prime lens junkie. In addition to two nikon D700 camera bodies I have a 50mm 1.4, 85mm 1.4, 60mm 2.8 (macro), 16mm 2.8 (fisheye) and a 135mm 2.0. A SB900 speed light, two black rapid elle camera straps, lots of cf cards, Chapstick and fashion tape. ( I've never not had someone use it at a wedding to keep their dress in place).

What type of camera bag do you rock?

I just got a huge lower backpack because I out grew my "pretty" camera bag. I wouldn't say I "rock" the backpack, more "lug" it LOL. But when I need to carry a smaller amount of gear, I rock a JOTotes Missy in mint. LOVE JoTotes- awesome AND affordable.

Photoshop or lightroom?

      Lightroom all the way.

Jpeg or Raw?

      Raw.

In three words only, how would you describe your photography style?

     Fun. Compelling. Authentic.

Top two favorite photographers and why?

GAH! How do I pick? This isn't fair. Ok.

Tabitha Patrick because she totally rocks. Her pictures are bright, clean and amazing. She is a friend and mentor and I just adore her high fashion work.

Sarah Cornish of My Four Hens Photography because the way she uses light is magical and every one of her pictures tells a story. No one captures childhood like Sarah.

Favorite season to shoot and why?

Summer, I love the sand and the ocean and the waves and all the magical things that come from shooting at the beach. I also love that there is more time in the day to shoot.

What is your non photography related down fall? Example: ( chocolate and soda...)

Wheat thins. Seriously, ask anyone. They are my addiction. Ask anyone.

What is your most embarrassing moment at a shoot to date?

I was shooting at a wedding and my flash overheated and decided to make a high- pitched chirping  noise right when they were going to kiss. Thank god for second shooters. I silenced my flash and she got the shot.

What is your one best piece of advice to give someone just starting out?

Find a mentor, someone who's work inspired you and learn everything you can from them. Then take tons of pictures.

If you weren't a photographer what would you be? Any dream careers?

      Married to Hugh Jackman........

What is your goal for photography in the next three years?

To be happy with where I am in photography. How's that for avoiding a real answer? But seriously, I have dreams, things I'd like to accomplish from a business standpoint, but my biggest goal is to keep shooting and love what I shoot.
